Analysis of Previous Students Work 2

I have again referred to the OCR marking criteria once again to analyse this students work of 'Paradise (cover)' by Modestep. They have shown evidence of technical skills and included elements of mise-en-scene. The students camera movement isn't very smooth which highlights the basic level of professional feel to the video. There are various camera angles such as mid-shot, point of view, over the shoulder, close up and high/low angle, however referring to the OCR criteria the student has used these camera angles to a very basic level. The student has used two main lightings which are natural and artificial lighting, which again referring to the OCR marking criteria has been used to a basic level. However, despite the basic technical skills, the narrative of the video is very clear and has been performed to a professional level, especially the blonde male actor. There are various locations for this video which shows that the student has put a lot of thought into the filming process and have a clear idea of what they want the finishing product to look like. The body language and the facial expressions of the actors and actress are very strong, which makes the narrative of the story seem very real. The blonde actor puts emphasis on his body language and facial expression which marking it with the OCR criteria would go under excellent.

Despite the excellent narrative, the only things that I would change is the camera control and how the directors manoeuvre the camera, and also the costume of the actors/actress in the video because I don't think much attention was paid to the wardrobes.

Analysis of a Previous Students Work

I have referred to the OCR marking criteria whilst analysing this students work of the song 'Stuck' by the Canopy Climbers. They have shown lots of evidence of technical skills and included lots of mise-en-scene elements to a very high standard. For example, the costume and setting has been strongly considered to make the video as professional as possible. The student also has a very high quality camera which adds to the professional feel. As well as using various camera angles such as close ups, long shots, worms eye view, mid-shots and over the shoulder, he also controls the camera to a very professional level and therefore having movements in all the right places. The student has used various lightings within his video such as natural lighting, artificial lighting and a physical fire. He uses a simple spot light to enhance the singers face in particular scenes. There is also a variety of locations featured in the video which shows good prior planning and organisation skills. The actor in the video has strong facial expressions and body language, therefore reflecting the emotion in the song and matching the lyrics and storyline. The student has edited the video to a professional standard, by speeding up the shadows and clouds as well as decreasing the vibrance and saturation in the video. The lyrics, visuals and music all work well together as the storyline is clear and easy to follow, and certain points of action link directly to the artists' lyrics being sung.
